For this week’s module, we had worked on our resume. I’d say this particular assignment was fairly straight forward in terms of what needed to be achieved. I made my resume page to just list out the highlights of my education and professional journey. I do wonder if I could add more qualitative elements that I wouldn’t usually be afforded on the real resume.
I had a question I had put out to my classmates in this week’s FlipGrid video asking whether it was wise to make a resume for the industry and even company specific to me (in my case, I currently have ongoing goals to stay within UC San Diego. There are systems that are specific to, at minimum, the University of California (UC) System. So while I list things on my resume that are “transferable” and understood by other UC campuses, they wouldn’t necessarily land on other potential employers. I had one feedback given to keep it broad so that any potential employer could understand the skills you have. I had another feedback that was to make it specific to the industry.
At this point I am kind of leaning towards making it more “broad” while still referencing some systems. After all, if I am adept at picking up and navigating what IS essentially a brand new Human Resource Information System (HRIS) that was implemented UC system wide - then I can definitely highlight that I am savvy with technology.
It has been a tough couple of weeks as my partner and I took a last minute road trip as a celebration of him accepting a new job. Finding the time to integrate time to work while on the road was a struggle - glad to be back at home to settle back into a schedule.
