For this week’s module 2 assignments, we had to do our first “showing” of our website to our class. That meant that this tracy-liu.weebly.com could be accessed and viewed by others! We then had to respond back to a couple of other classmate’s Flipgrid videos with constructive feedback as well.
I really put off putting my link in the Google document as long as I could. While I know we have the whole rest of this course until August 19, 2021 - I got really in my head about designing my website. Not that there really was any chance of folks other than my classmates and instructor that would find this site….I still felt the pressure to design what pages I had on display to look decent. Quite honestly I almost wanted to scrap this weekly blog module idea. But like I said from module 1 and somewhat remembering my ambitious post - I am really putting it on myself to do this reflection. It’s interesting to see in real time how I could completely feel demotivated in just a 1 week difference.
With the two classmate feedback Flipgrids I received, I was given praise for the about me photo narrative idea. I realize I never cited how it actually was from a previous MSU student’s portfolio, Joseph A. Hoover (he also has a really fascinating career so I went and explored that for a bit). One suggestion was to work in some graphic design to help support the photo narrative idea. I’m thinking maybe (if I can manage to figure out some more photos for the grid) to add sections of the narrative? Like maybe a career photo narrative and a hobbies/personal life photo narrative? At the same time I do want to keep this page very minimal and let the photos (and hover over captions) speak for themselves. I’ll have to marinate on this feedback more.
Another really useful feedback was to make my navigation bar just have all of the labels at the top level. Right now the navigation bar is designed in a way where all you first see at the top level is “menu” and then it drops down the: home, about, capstone journal. I’m definitely going to incorporate that feedback into my next big website update.
